Since I’ve been back in Japan I’ve found myself using Jisho Touch a lot more than I was during the states. Something that I had become an annoyance was being unable to bookmark words. The problem came in trying to figure out the right, intuitive way to do it.
Some of the solutions I had seen while researching other people’s implementations seemed less than optimal. I didn’t want to have to actually view an entry to be able to bookmark it and I had no space for buttons in the Navigation bar.
I was stuck at this phase for quite a while. Then one day it hit me while using GMail. Starring a message in GMail is just like “Bookmarking” an email. Moreover starring something translates across all cultures without the need for text.
I decided to go this route in Jisho Touch as well. Touch a star on the entry to bookmark. Touch again to remove from the bookmarks. I’ve submitted Jisho Touch 1.5 to the AppStore already and this is how it looks.
