More goodness

One thing that has irked me about the JMDict file is the tendency to include descriptors along with a word without actually including just the word without descriptors as well.

For example, one of the entries, say for 水. It’s a very basic and very important word (water). However, the entry for 水 presently is translated as “water (cold, fresh)”. This creates problems – problems that if you do an exact search you won’t get any results if you search for just “water”.

I’ve had enough with it and fixed it once and for all. In the next releases of Jisho and Jisho Touch (both hopefully next week or so) this will no longer be a problem. You can search for “water” and get a bunch of results. I think this will really improve Jisho and Jisho Touch quite a bit and I can’t wait to get it into your hands.

That’s great, many thanks. Was wondering though if you have some other new features in store for Jisho Touch ?
Personally I would appreciate being able to toggle the languages on/off (I never use Russian, for instance), and have the conjugation for verbs.
Dunno if you’ve seen the dictionary called “Japanese” from codefromtokyo :

It has a few neat stuff in it.

    Keep up the good work.

    Hey Kurisu,

I am going to adding that in the next release. In-fact I added it yesterday. You will be able to turn it off via the Settings app.

I’ve got some other ideas in mind for Jisho Touch, but I am still figuring out the proper UI so they act like an iPhone app should. But more is on the way for sure!
